Today I had the chance to meet, photograph, and speak with twenty one year old Australian track bike rider Daniel Licastro, also known as Gypsy. Originally from Brisbane, he picked up riding bikes as a way to help train and exercise for his rowing team. However as time went on, he soon found himself more in love with pedaling then rowing and became a messenger in his local city.
Now a days he can be found working as a bike mechanic in a local bike shop in Brisbane, and rides for the frame company Colossi. Gypsy worked closely with Colossi when designing his triple triangle track frame he was riding for our shoot, which was originally created with his 1,300 mile Joy Ride bike tour in mind. As of now he plans on traveling in the US for another two months to continue riding, and make his way up to Oregon where he’s enrolled at the United Bicycle Institute. Once he makes it back to Australia he plans on arranging another tour similar to Joy Ride set to take place at the beginning of next year. If you want to follow Gypsy on his travels, follow his new tumblr.
