Years ago in San Diego we had a weekly Wednesday midnight ride that drew people from all over the county. What started out as a handful of friends out for 30-40 miles, grew into a large group of cyclists rolling around town until the sun rose. We made alot of friends through that ride, some of whom would come from Tijuana or drive over from Tecate, but it wasn’t long before we started heading South of the border to ride with them in their cities.
After traveling to cities all over the United States and riding with friends, it would be hard to say any group is as positive or as friendly as those in Tijuana or Tecate. While we’ve done our best to be good hosts when they come up to visit, our hospitality pales in comparison to the red carpet they roll out when we cross into Mexico. Our friend Bolas of Kilolibra recently moved from the small town of Tecate into Tijuana to open up a bike/coffee shop called Bica, and invited us to come out for the opening party.
Hundreds of people filtered in and out of the shop for coffee and to check out the new digs. While Bolas, his brother, and friends have been putting in work to prepare the store for the opening, they said in a few weeks to come back and see what they’ve added as they still have plans for additions. We crossed too late into the afternoon for me to be able to shoot any medium format with the Mamiya, and all I had on me was my Nikon D5000 which doesn’t handle low light as well as other cameras of mine, so I plan on visiting again soon to shoot more.
