Emi Brown On His Road Bike

Published on August 22nd, 2012

Emi’s been putting in miles the past couple months on his Leader Mark 1 frame with rides from San Diego to LA and back, so when he got his new Ekoi kits in we headed out to do a couple shoots. It’s interesting shooting Emi since he’s always trying to sneak in as much riding in between posing shots. For the more foresty shots he rode up the mountain 6,000 feet up while we shot, with me simply driving ahead to setup lights while he caught up.

I tried out some new photoshop techniques on these pictures. The long hours being awake at night with a new born gives me time to stare at a computer and mess around with stuff I hadn’t tried before. This kind of processing obviously isn’t for every kind of subject matter, but for the “hero shot” look I’m really feeling it.

Great looking photos (I didn’t realize you were based here in Sandy Eggo). Congratulations on your new-born!

Fantastic shots Matt. The images have a real Dave hill, Tim tadder-ish feel to them. I’ve often tried to figure out the processing technique used to achieve this, and I always end up with an “over processed image”.

I just spent a butt load of time painting in raw settings by hand in lightroom 4. It takes forever to get the mask right to cut down on haloing, especially since you can’t use selections as near as I can tell, but it’s worth it if you’re bored and have the time to screw around.
